A fantastic, working piece of American railroading history! This is a genuine vintage ADLAKE (Adams & Westlake) railroad switch lock with its original, matching brass key and a heavy chain. This set dates from 1936 or later, based on the patent date.
Key Features & Markings:
Manufacturer: ADLAKE (Adams & Westlake), the premier maker of railroad hardware.
Railroad Initials: Marked BAR on the reverse of the lock body and BAR 6 on the brass hollow barrel key. These initials identify the lock's original railway line, most commonly associated with the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad but may refer to other smaller lines.
Key: Original brass hollow barrel switch key, marked BAR 6 and ADLAKE on the opposite side (confirming it is the correct type). The lock operates smoothly with the key.
Patent Date: Stamped PAT. 2040482, corresponding to a patent issued on May 12, 1936.
